Leadership Catoosa soars with $11,000 donation

-

The Catoosa County Chamber of Commerce Leadership Catoosa Class of 2017 gave a donation to Coosa Valley Regional Services to benefit the Catoosa Home Delivered Meals Program. The donation was made at the Chamber Networking @ Lunch and Leadership Catoosa Graduation event held at The Colonnade on June 8, 2017.

Administered by the Catoosa County Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Catoosa is a 9-month communitybased educational program that is offered to existing and emerging leaders from diverse backgrounds. The program is designed to educate and expose participants to the varied aspects of the community. Through the LC program, participants better understand issues facing Catoosa County. Using creative ideas and approaches, the program builds leadership skills and shows participants how they can make a difference in business and the community.

Leadership Catoosa classes choose a service project each year as part of the course. The class was made aware of a waiting list for services for Catoosa County senior residents who qualify for the home delivery meal program. The estimated cost to provide services per recipient is $2,000/ year. A grassroots effort to raise funds for the Catoosa Home Delivered Meals program began with a dinner fundraiser event held in April at the Catoosa Senior Citizens Center. The Hullender Family gospel group provided entertainment while guests enjoyed a meal provided by Five Star Catering. A silent auction was held with many items donated by area businesses. The Leadership class also held an online auction as well as raffles for a donated Yeti Cooler and a grass trimmer to add to the total amount. Area businesses gave corporate donations making the total amount $11,372.83 that was donated to the Catoosa Home Delivered Meals Program.

At the Leadership Graduation on Thursday (June 8), Amy Jackson, Membership Coordinator and Leadership Catoosa Class participant said, “This was definitely a community effort that was led by the Leadership Class. Once business owners, leaders, and residents were made aware of the need, they were more than willing to donate and provide support to the homebound senior residents needing these services in the Catoosa County area.”
