Chattanooga Connector Trail and “Moonshine Trails” are open
Sept. 16 event to celebrate 8.1 miles of additional Lookout Mountain trails
Lula Lake Land Trust has completed a 4.1 mile long trail, The Chattanooga Connector Trail, that will link Lula Lake’s Core Property to Covenant College.
The Chattanooga Connector Trail is a culmination of a 10- year project that links multiple trail systems on Lookout Mountain to downtown Chattanooga.
The interconnected trail systems include Cloudland Canyon State Park, the Cloudland Connector Trail, Five Points, Lula Lake Land Trust, the Chickamauga - Chattanooga National Park Service trails on Lookout Mountain and the Tennessee Riverwalk.
This trail system stretches over 120 miles and will eventually be part of the Great Eastern Trail, America’s newest long distance trail stretching from Alabama to New York.
Also opening along with the Chattanooga Connector Trail is an additional 4 miles of trail nicknamed “The Moonshine Trails.” These spur trails offer advanced riding in the form of fast descents, rock bridges, boulders, and even a few man-made features that incorporate use of the natural formations of the land.
Construction on the Chattanooga Connector Trail and the Moonshine Trails began in December 2016. The trails opened to the public on July 29, 2017.
Lula Lake Land Trust will be hosting a grand opening celebration on Saturday, Sept. 16. Festivities of the grand opening will include “The Moonshine Shuffle,” a scavenger hunt style race for trail runners and mountain bikers, along with food, drinks, and music at Lula Lake’s Core Property.
