Chattanooga Con­nec­tor Trail and “Moon­shine Trails” are open

Sept. 16 event to cel­e­brate 8.1 miles of ad­di­tional Look­out Moun­tain trails

Lula Lake Land Trust has com­pleted a 4.1 mile long trail, The Chattanooga Con­nec­tor Trail, that will link Lula Lake’s Core Prop­erty to Covenant Col­lege.

The Chattanooga Con­nec­tor Trail is a cul­mi­na­tion of a 10- year project that links mul­ti­ple trail sys­tems on Look­out Moun­tain to down­town Chattanooga.

The in­ter­con­nected trail sys­tems in­clude Cloud­land Canyon State Park, the Cloud­land Con­nec­tor Trail, Five Points, Lula Lake Land Trust, the Chicka­mauga - Chattanooga Na­tional Park Ser­vice trails on Look­out Moun­tain and the Ten­nessee River­walk.

This trail sys­tem stretches over 120 miles and will even­tu­ally be part of the Great East­ern Trail, Amer­ica’s new­est long dis­tance trail stretch­ing from Alabama to New York.

Also open­ing along with the Chattanooga Con­nec­tor Trail is an ad­di­tional 4 miles of trail nick­named “The Moon­shine Trails.” These spur trails of­fer ad­vanced rid­ing in the form of fast de­scents, rock bridges, boul­ders, and even a few man-made fea­tures that in­cor­po­rate use of the nat­u­ral for­ma­tions of the land.

Con­struc­tion on the Chattanooga Con­nec­tor Trail and the Moon­shine Trails be­gan in De­cem­ber 2016. The trails opened to the pub­lic on July 29, 2017.

Lula Lake Land Trust will be host­ing a grand open­ing cel­e­bra­tion on Satur­day, Sept. 16. Fes­tiv­i­ties of the grand open­ing will in­clude “The Moon­shine Shuf­fle,” a scav­enger hunt style race for trail run­ners and moun­tain bik­ers, along with food, drinks, and mu­sic at Lula Lake’s Core Prop­erty.
