LaFayette suffering September dry spell

- By Scott Herpst

A late regular season swoon continued for the LaFayette Lady Ramblers last week as they dropped two of three Region 6-AAAA contests to fall to 14-8 overall and 7-4 in the region.

The Lady Ramblers came back from a 9-3 deficit and brought the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the seventh, but the comeback would fall short against their county rivals.

Sam Adkins hit a three-run homer for LaFayette, while Nicky Yancy, Ashton Stalling, Madison Pettigrew and Carlee Corbin had RBIs in the seventh. Yancy went 3-for-3 for the Lady Ramblers and scored twice, while Madi Ashley was 2-for-3 in the loss.

Stalling worked the first three innings, giving up four runs and taking the loss, while Pettigrew allowed five runs in her final four innings in the circle.

The Lady Ramblers got some big hits from a trio of freshmen and the Orange-and-Black temporarily put their skid on hold with an important home win on Wednesday.

Corbin was 2-for-4 and delivered the gametying hit, while Ashley’s only hit was the gamewinner. Railee Lynn also had a big hit for LaFayette.

Pettigrew started the game in the circle and threw five innings, but got no decision. She struck out six and allowed just two earned runs, while going 2-for3 at the plate. Stalling worked the final two innings in relief and collected the win. She

gave up one unearned run.

On Thursday, the Lady Ramblers scored solo runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but surrendered three in the bottom of the seventh as the Lady Bobcats pulled off the dramatic comefrom-behind victory in Ellijay.

Yancy went 3-for3 with a double and scored a run. Corbin was 1-for-3 with a run scored, while Megan Wilson was also 1-for-3. Pettigrew threw four innings, giving up two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.

LaFayette is currently third in the region standings with one game remaining. They will host Heritage on Tuesday with a victory assuring them of at least the No. 3 seed for the region tournament.
