Ridgeland set to face old nemesis in first round
The Ridgeland Panthers moved to 7-3 on the season with a 37-21 victory at Southeast Whitfield on Friday night.
Nathan Carver got the start under center and threw for 141 yards on 8-of16 passes, connecting on a TD pass to Josh Burnette, while regular starting quarterback Tanner Hill had two catches for 42 yards. Jordan Blackwell ran 17 times for 81 of the Panthers’ 135 yards on the ground.
Ridgeland will open the state playoffs at home this Friday with a home game against state-ranked Flowery Branch (8-2), whose only two losses of the season came against defending state champion Blessed Trinity (21-20) and 7-AAAA runner-up Marist (20-0).
It will mark the third-ever meeting between the Panthers and Falcons. The first two also came in the state playoffs. Flowery Branch beat Ridgeland 21-14 in the second round in 2008 and 17-14 in the first round in 2009.
