CHAR­LOTTE - Betsy Cansler Thomas, 91, of Char­lotte died Wed­nes­day, Oc­to­ber 24, 2018 at Sharon Tow­ers. She was born on Fe­bru­ary 5, 1927 in Pres­by­te­rian Hospi­tal, daugh­ter of the late Ed­win Thomas Cansler, Jr. and Nell Cave Cansler. A Char­lotte na­tive, Betsy was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Charles L.C. Thomas Jr. whom she mar­ried in 1948.

Betsy grad­u­ated from Cen­tral High School in 1945 and at­tended Gulf Park Col­lege in Gulf Park, Mis­sis­sippi and Queens Col­lege in Char­lotte. Prior to her mar­riage, she worked at WBT Ra­dio and later at HY Du­n­away Com­pany and Home Realty and Man­age­ment Com­pany. She was very ac­tive in the com­mu­nity and was in­volved in the Lit­tle Theatre of Char­lotte, The Chil­dren’s Theatre of Char­lotte and was a vol­un­teer at Char­lotte Memo­rial Hospi­tal (CMC). She was also a for­mer mem­ber of the Char­lotte Ju­nior League, Char­lotte Debu­tante Club, Bene­dicts Club, Char­lotte Cotil­lion Club and the Char­lotte Coun­try Club.

Betsy en­joyed a life- long love of the beach and the moun­tains, par­tic­u­larly at their fam­ily home in Lit­tle Switzer­land, NC. Later in life she spent many happy days with fam­ily and friends at Lit­tle Switzer­land and the Boone area.

Betsy is sur­vived by her three chil­dren, Charles L.C. Thomas III and his wife, Mary Sue Thomas, Diana Cansler Thomas, and Robert C. M. Thomas and his wife, Fran Rock Thomas; grand­chil­dren, Wil­liam Cansler Thomas, Robert C. M. Thomas Jr. and his wife, Stephanie Lynn Thomas , Ed­win Cansler Thomas and his wife, Jean­nie Jack­son Thomas; great- grand­chil­dren, Sadie Laine Thomas, James Lee Thomas and Emma Claire Thomas.

The fam­ily would like to of­fer a spe­cial thanks to the staff and com­pan­ions at Sharon Tow­ers and Hos­pice and Pal­lia­tive Care who took such good care of Betsy in her later years.
