Wolfpack name isn’t a good fit

The Citizens' Voice - - EDITORIAL -

Editor: I am wondering if anyone thought the name of the new Wilkes-barre Area sports teams through.

Perhaps the name “Wolfpack” does imply a certain level of cooperation among former adversaries.

However, the first place my thoughts went was to the name given to the groups of prowling Nazi U-boats (submarines, for those who are unfamiliar with the term) which decimated Allied shipping in the Atlantic during World War II. The name evokes much loss of life and destruction in that context, and is somewhat disrespectful to our Navy and Merchant Marine veterans from that era. I will not be able to support any team under that name.

Nazis have no place, real or implied, in any modern American school sports setting. Abby Aristeo Dallas
