Robert J. Hines, 75, of Pittston, and for­merly of Avoca, passed away Thurs­day, Oct. 11, 2018, at the Gar­dens at East Moun­tain, Wilkes-barre, af­ter a long bat­tle with kid­ney disease.

Robert was born in Avoca on Sept. 8, 1943. He was the son of the late Leo and Ruth (Maxwell) Hines.

Bob at­tended Avoca High School, and went on to serve in the U.S. Army, as­signed to the 293rd En­gi­neers in Baumholder, Ger­many dur­ing the Viet­nam era. He had var­ied ca­reers through­out his life and ul­ti­mately re­tired from the Chrysler Cor­po­ra­tion in Ne­wark, Del., assem­bly plant. Bob was a proud mem­ber of the United Auto Work­ers Union, the Amer­i­can Le­gion and the Veter­ans of For­eign Wars. He was an avid reader with a pas­sion for read­ing his­tory on the U.S. mil­i­tary, U.S. gov­ern­ment and world lead­ers. Bob was also a fan of the New Or­leans Saints foot­ball team.

Pre­ced­ing him death was his first wife, Carol Mock.

Robert is sur­vived by his wife, Judie Hines; son, Bruce Hines; daugh­ter, Tara Hines; step­sons, Eric and Vince Ma­graner and Joe Mon­tras. Sev­eral grand­chil­dren and great-grand­chil­dren also sur­vive.

Pri­vate fu­neral ser­vices and in­ter­ment will be held in In­diantown Gap Na­tional Ceme­tery, An­nville. There are no pub­lic call­ing hours.

Ar­range­ments are en­trusted to Knif­fen O’mal­ley Lef­fler Fu­neral and Cre­ma­tion Ser­vices Inc., 728 Main St., Avoca.
