West Norriton police Detective Charles Naber was awarded a chief’s commendation by police Chief Dale Mabry Feb. 12 for helping the Philadelphia police apprehend an armed robbery suspect Jan. 15.

While assigned to a surveillance detail for the Montgomery County Narcotics Enforcement Team, Naber was driving near the intersection of 44th and Sansom streets when he observed two Philadelphia police officers chasing a 17-year-old Philadelphia man.

The man tried to elude the two officers by running into an alleyway, and Naber used his vehicle to block the man’s escape route and helped the police officers apprehend him. A loaded firearm was recovered from the suspect.

The Philadelphia police officers told Naber that the man was a suspect in an armed robbery in the 4400 block of Sansom Street.

“Because of Detective Naber’s alertness and prompt response, a felon was captured and he and his loaded weapon were taken off the street,” Mabry said.
