Norristown celebrates Black History Month
Norristown celebrated Black History Month Feb. 12 with a program of speeches, music and awards at municipal hall.
Willie Richet, Norristown’s former interim police chief, received the Black Heritage Award, and students from the Norristown Area School District were recognized for their prize-winning essays on the topic of what they would ask President Barack Obama to do for their schools, if given the chance. Musical selections were from Whitehall Elementary students, the male chorus of Siloam Baptist Church and instrumentalists Miriam James and Charles James II.
Rosalie Hetrick leads the fourth-grade chorus of Whitehall Elementary School in song.
