Cole Manor playground campaign closing in on goal
The fundraising effort to bring a new playground to Cole Manor Elementary School has been steadily picking up steam since teachers, parents and students launched the campaign in the fall.
“I am very excited about the progress wehavemadeso far,” said Jenny Rosen, a parent with students at Cole Manor who has been working with teacher Iris Rolon to drum up support for the campaign, which would replace both playgrounds at the school. “I am looking forward to seeing the kids playing on the new playground in the fall. This project is just the beginning for our little neighborhood school.”
As ofApril 8, the campaign has raised $12,400 through individual and corporate donations and fundraising events.
Recently, the financial burden of the project was lightened through a pledge from Skanska USABuilding Inc. to in- stall the playground equipment for free.
Originally, the cost of the entire project, from removal to installation, was estimated at $48,000. Rolon indicated Skanska’s pledge has reduced the overall cost to approximately $32,000.
According to Rolon, the playground will also benefit the larger community, and not just Cole Manor students, because parents and grandparents, along with the East Norriton Little League community, use the playgrounds after school hours and during weekends.
The campaign has hosted several fundraising events throughout the year, with more planned for the near future.
Community members are encouraged to sign up for The Friends of Cole Manor Golf Outing to help bring students the much needed playground renovation.
The golf outing is April 28 at the Raven’s Claw Golf Course on Ridge Pike in Pottstown and costs $65 per golfer.
The outing begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start and will be followed by lunch and beverages in the clubhouse for an additional price.
Sponsorships for the golf outing are available. Checks are tax-deductible.
Cart sponsorships cost $50 and include a printed sign on a cart. Hole sponsorship costs $100 and include a printed sign on a tee box or putting green. And event sponsorships cost $1,000 and include a printed sign on two tee boxes, one foursome for golf, name on platinum banner and table tents on all tables.
Payments are due by April 21, and can be mailed to Cole Manor Elementary, 2350 Springview Road, Norristown, PA19401, Attn: Mrs. Iris Rolon.
Checks should be made out to Friends of Cole Manor.
Local businesses are encouraged to donate to the playground project. Businesses and individuals that donate $1,000 or more to the project can become platinum supporters and will have their name engraved on the playground welcome sign.
