West Conshohocken police are investigating an armed robbery that took place Friday morning, Aug. 22, at Baggataway Tavern, located at 31 Front St.
According to statements given by three employees, two black male suspects — one approximately 40 years old, with a trimmed beard and slim build, between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall, and the other, in his 20s, also slim, between 5 feet 7 inches and 5 feet 9 inches tall, both wearing dark clothing and hoodies pulled tight to their faces — entered the establishment shortly after the last patron left around 2 a.m. The older suspect pointed a silver revolver at two male employees and ordered them to get on the ground while the younger suspect ordered a female employee to open a cash register.
The suspects took close to $1,000 in cash, a bank bag and a tip jar. They confiscated the employees’ cellphones and ordered them into the basement, according to police.
About 10 minutes later, after hearing a vehicle drive away, the employees emerged from the basement and called 911.
No one was injured in the incident.
Police were able to track one of the employees’ cellphones to approximately a mile east of the Conshohocken exit on Interstate 76 where it was found on the side of the roadway along with the phone of another employee, which was located about 50 feet away. The third cellphone was not recovered.
The Montgomery County Detectives Crime Scene Unit is processing the phones for any forensic evidence, and footage from area video surveillance is being reviewed.
The Conshohocken, Upper Merion, Bridgeport and Lower Merion police responded to the scene and assisted in a search for the suspects.
Anyone with information regarding the robbery is urged to contact Detective Carfagno at 610-940-5842.
