Two more townships to use city dispatchers

Grove City will provide dispatching services to two more township fi re departments by the end of the year.

The city council approved a three-year agreement Monday to begin providing dispatching for Scioto Township this summer at a cost of $ 28,266 annually.

A similar agreement with Prairie Township is expected to be approved July 3 at a cost of $168,540 per year. The city will take over dispatching services for Prairie Township on Dec. 1.

Both township fi re departments are hiring Grove City because the city’s communications center has the capacity to handle the nextgeneration 911 technology.

That technology, expected to be in place by the end of the year, will allow residents to text emergency calls to 911 using their cellphones.

Grove City currently handles dispatching for its own police department and the Jackson and Pleasant township fire departments.
