Disrespect was in eye of beholder

The Columbus Dispatch - - Letters To The Editor -

It was another Sunday and some NFL players continue to take a knee. Vice President Mike Pence was so “offended” that he had to leave the game. Once again it was smoke and mirrors for the political base.

When I first saw a player kneel, I did not see an “SOB” disrespecting the flag, the military, or the national anthem. I saw a man humble himself as he listened to the anthem of the United States of America. I saw his act as a symbol to say pray for the men and women who died in service of this country, pray for the victims of senseless murders, pray for racist violence to end, pray that our leaders will find ways to heal the division within this country not continue to divide the people. Perhaps all of us need to take a step back, listen to the national anthem, and take a knee to pray for this country.
