A Columbus man admitted Tuesday that he killed his ex-girlfriend in a West Side parking lot more than a year ago.

Danny Fabro, 55, pleaded guilty to one count of murder with a gun specification and was sentenced to life in prison by Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Charles Schneider.

With the gun specification, Fabro will be eligible for parole after 18 years. Counts of aggravated murder, failure to comply and improper handling of a firearm were dropped as part of a plea agreement.

Fabro shot Joyce Fox, 56, in the head early on Feb. 17, 2017, in the parking lot of a UPS distribution center on Trabue Road, where she worked. Police said the relationship between them had ended a few months earlier.

Fabro fled the scene, but his pickup truck was later stopped by officers near the intersection of West Broad Street and North Wilson Road on the west side. During a subsequent standoff, he shot himself in the head.

Fabro was charged with murder at the time, but the case was inactive for months while he recovered in the hospital.
