Barbara Bush in failing health
Former first lady Barbara Bush, shown with husband George H.W. Bush in 2008, is in failing health and will not seek further medical care at age 92, the former president’s office said. A person close to the family told The Washington Post that Barbara Bush has been suffering from a lung disease called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and from congestive heart failure. After several recent hospitalizations, she has decided to focus on care to keep her comfortable, the office said. “It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others,” the office said.
