The realignment of Ohio politics by Donald Trump in 2016 showed up again in 2018, as GOP gubernatorial candidate Mike DeWine either topped Trump's vote percentage or came within 2 points of it in 41 of the state’s 88 counties. The attorney general was within 4 points of Trump’s total in another 24 counties. Although this year’s count has yet to be finalized, DeWine at this point has 50.7 percent of the statewide vote, compared to 51.7 percent for Trump.
