BEST BETS: EGG SANDWICH

The Commercial Appeal - Go Memphis - - Go Eat -

I love an egg sandwich, and I also like a sandwich with the unexpected addition of a fried egg. The Amazing Island Club Sandwich at Bardog Tavern Downtown comes to mind when I think of the latter, so when I heard the fine folks there were serving breakfast sliders, I figured I needed to take a trip.

The sandwich pictured here contains a fried egg, served with spicy mayonnaise, ham, cheese and bacon on a soft bun. You can customize your combination, and while I asked for ham instead of bacon, I sure wasn’t sending it back for getting both.

It’s a nice way to start the day, assuming your day starts late enough — the doors open at 8 a.m. I walked up to the bar, ordered my sandwich, and it was ready before I finished playing my silly word game on my iPhone. And I parked right out front.

Breakfast, which is sliders and coffee only, ends at 10 a.m., but you can order the egg sliders off the menu any time of the day.

At Bardog Tavern, they like eggs on bread. Egg sliders are the latest menu addition.
