“That’s the best offense we’ve faced, the best passing offense,” said MUS defensive back Maurice Hampton. “We came out a little unfocused, but then we went back to doing what we’ve been doing all year.”

After gaining 80 yards on those first two plays, Ridgeway managed just 179 more. It came in averaging 403.6 yards per game, second in the county behind Briarcrest.

The Owls, tied with CBHS for third in the Dandy Dozen, held Ridgeway to minus-20 rushing yards, a school record.

After the slow start, MUS got into even more trouble when starting quarterback Steven Regis left the game with a shoulder injury early. But Bobby Wade came in and directed a running game that racked up 242 yards on a variety of jet sweeps and quarterback keepers.

Wade scored on a 12-yard run and Foley scored on runs of 1, 20 and 3. Jalon Love also had a 19-yard touchdown run for the Owls, who rushed 39 straight times at one point and finished the game with 56 running plays and only five passes.

Ridgeway’s final TD came with six minutes to go as Sandusky hit Kundarrius Taylor from 15 yards.

Owls kicker Trey Thomas had field goals of 43 and 23 yards and is 15 of 28 on the year. With four games to go in the regular season, he has broken the mark of 13, set by Corbin Peeper of Collierville.

MUS celebrates Homecoming next Friday against St. Benedict while Ridgeway will look to avoid its second straight loss with a trip to perennial Louisiana power West Monroe.

Cordova head coach Anthony Jones knows his team didn’t play its best on either side of the ball against Germantown, but his highly ranked offense and topranked defense made enough plays for a 33-19 victory.

“It was a hard-fought game,” Jones said. “We persevered through it and found a way to win against a really good team.”

Cordova (6-0 and ranked No. 2 in The Commercial Appeal Dandy Dozen) entered the game against Germantown (1-5) with the best defense in the city, allowing only 95.8 yards and 5.8 points per game. The Red Devils exceeded both numbers in the first quarter.

The defense rebounded and only allowed six yards in the second quarter and senior running back Harold Lacy paced the offense with
