Beyond the shadow of doubt, Memphis is churning toward Monday’s solar eclipse. The Bartlett-based American Paper Optics has already sold 45 million pairs of solar eclipse glasses, and in these waning hours is cramming in 19-hour days to make and ship 550,000 solar eclipse glasses a day. “Six weeks ago we were seeing 300 orders a day on our website (eclipseglasses.com),” President John Jerit said. “And now, Monday, one week from eclipse day, we saw 9,300 orders on our website.” A minimum order is 25 pairs at $4 per pair, plus shipping.
In Memphis, the eclipse will last about as long as a football game, 2 hours and 57 minutes.
