Be­yond the shadow of doubt, Mem­phis is churn­ing to­ward Mon­day’s so­lar eclipse. The Bartlett-based Amer­i­can Pa­per Op­tics has al­ready sold 45 mil­lion pairs of so­lar eclipse glasses, and in these wan­ing hours is cram­ming in 19-hour days to make and ship 550,000 so­lar eclipse glasses a day. “Six weeks ago we were see­ing 300 or­ders a day on our web­site (eclipse­glasses.com),” Pres­i­dent John Jerit said. “And now, Mon­day, one week from eclipse day, we saw 9,300 or­ders on our web­site.” A min­i­mum or­der is 25 pairs at $4 per pair, plus ship­ping.

In Mem­phis, the eclipse will last about as long as a foot­ball game, 2 hours and 57 minutes.
