Two plays set for Women’s History Month
ELVERSON >> Two free programs, the first on March 18 and the second on March 25, will be presented at 2 p.m. at Hopewell Furnace National Historic Site to honor Women’s History Month. Both one-act plays are performed by Christine Emmert.
On March 18, Emmert will present “From Out of the Fiery Furnace.” The play brings to life 19th Century stories of Hopewell Furnace from the perspective of runaway slaves, “fallen” women, indentured servants, and orphaned children.
On March 25, Emmert will present “Fragile Freedom,” a series of monologues and poetry that examines women’s journeys to voting equality in the United States, culminat- ing with the passage of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution. Both performances will be in the Hopewell Furnace Conference Center. No reservation is required.
