Ethan’s Heart Jour­ney 5K: The fifth an­nual Ethan’s Heart Jour­ney 5K Run and 1 Mile Fun Walk to sup­port a lo­cal fam­ily in need will be held Sun­day, Oct. 8, at River Front Park, Pottstown. The run will start at 8:30 a.m.; the walk will start at 9:45 a.m. Cost: $25. Reg­is­tra­tion ends Oct. 6. The pro­ceeds will sup­port 7-year-old Ethan Schwartz, who has a con­gen­i­tal heart de­fect and suf­fered a car­diac ar­rest which led to a se­vere anoxic brain in­jury; he has been wheel­chair bound since then with Spas­tic Quad­ri­plegic Cere­bral Palsy. Fall Into Fun: Pottsgrove Manor will host Fall into Fun Liv­ing His­tory Day Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Ex­pe­ri­ence the sea­sonal rou­tines of 18th cen­tury life. Learn about the process of mak­ing ap­ple but­ter with the help of a his­toric in­ter­preter. Check out spin­ning and try out hands-on ac­tiv­i­ties such as stuff­ing a new mat­tress and make-and­take crafts. Dip your own can­dle, and play a wide range of colo­nial games. Feel the heat of the hearth as our cooks pre­pare a meal in our 18th cen­tury re­pro­duc­tion kitchen. Vis­i­tors can also learn about the eco­nomic, so­cial and his­tor­i­cal dif­fer­ences be­tween the 13 colonies as sev­enth- and eighth-grade stu­dents from Pottsgrove Mid­dle School dis­play their pro­ject, “Sell­ing Colo­nial Amer­ica.” This pro­gram wel­comes all ages, and there is a sug­gested $2 do­na­tion per per­son for this event. Art of Re­cov­ery: The Art of Re­cov­ery: Brush with the Law ex­hi­bi­tion will be on dis­play through Oct. 28 at the West Cam­pus of Mont­gomery County Com­mu­nity Col­lege in Pottstown. The ex­hi­bi­tion is cu­rated by Maria Ma­neos, founder and direc­tor of Brush with the Law, a non­profit, com­mu­nity ser­vice-based vis­ual arts pro­gram that helps bring aware­ness to and fos­ters an un­der­stand­ing of peo­ple who ex­pe­ri­ence the ef­fects of drug ad­dic­tion and the crim­i­nal jus­tice sys­tem. The ex­hi­bi­tion fea­tures about 50 artis­tic cre­ations, in­clud­ing draw­ings and paint­ings, by former pris­on­ers and those in re­cov­ery from drug ad­dic­tion who are af­fil­i­ated with the Brush with the Law pro­gram. A re­cep­tion fea­tur­ing Ma­neos and the artists will be held Sept. 27 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the gallery. The ex­hi­bi­tion and the re­cep­tion are free and open to the pub­lic.
