Police: Man found toting firearms, drugs
NEW HANOVER » Police have charged a man after he was allegedly found toting a bag full of firearms and drugs.
Andrew Cleveland, 40, of Pottstown, was arrested Nov. 1 after police say they received a call about a suspicious male in the area of North Charlotte Street and Anthony Drive just before noon. It was reported that the man who was carrying two backpacks, had been walking along the wood line and dropped one of the backpacks behind a tree. He then sat down on the ground.
After police arrived, they discovered a sawedoff shotgun, several rounds of shotgun ammunition, an unspecified quantity of marijuana and suspected methamphetamine. They also found several other controlled substances in one of the backpacks, police said.
Police then discovered that Cleveland was out on bail for firearms related charges in Douglass (Mont.) Township.
Officers arrested Cleveland and he was arraigned before District Judge Maurice Saylor. Bail was set at $10,000 cash and Cleveland is being held at Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 7 before Saylor.
