Po­lice: Man found tot­ing firearms, drugs

NEW HANOVER » Po­lice have charged a man af­ter he was al­legedly found tot­ing a bag full of firearms and drugs.

An­drew Cleve­land, 40, of Pottstown, was ar­rested Nov. 1 af­ter po­lice say they re­ceived a call about a sus­pi­cious male in the area of North Char­lotte Street and An­thony Drive just be­fore noon. It was re­ported that the man who was car­ry­ing two back­packs, had been walk­ing along the wood line and dropped one of the back­packs be­hind a tree. He then sat down on the ground.

Af­ter po­lice ar­rived, they dis­cov­ered a sawed­off shot­gun, sev­eral rounds of shot­gun am­mu­ni­tion, an un­spec­i­fied quan­tity of mar­i­juana and sus­pected metham­phetamine. They also found sev­eral other con­trolled sub­stances in one of the back­packs, po­lice said.

Po­lice then dis­cov­ered that Cleve­land was out on bail for firearms re­lated charges in Dou­glass (Mont.) Town­ship.

Of­fi­cers ar­rested Cleve­land and he was ar­raigned be­fore District Judge Mau­rice Say­lor. Bail was set at $10,000 cash and Cleve­land is be­ing held at Mont­gomery County Cor­rec­tional Fa­cil­ity.

A pre­lim­i­nary hear­ing is sched­uled for Nov. 7 be­fore Say­lor.
