Donations still needed for GoFourth! Festival fireworks
Second annual celebration still needs $20,000 to cover expenses
The second annual GoFourth! Festival is hoping to bring in new entertainment and family-friendly fun to mix up this year’s July 4 celebration, but money is still needed.
Volunteers still need close to $20,000 to reach their goal of $60,000. The festival is run purely on donations without any taxpayer monies used.
“No Pottstown Borough funds help to pay for this celebration,” said Amy Francis, co-chairperson of the GoFourth! Festival committee. “It is completely funded by sponsorships and donations made by businesses and individuals who want to offer our greater Pottstown community a fun, family-oriented event — a happening hat showcases all the positive community spirit and amenities that Pottstown has to offer.”
Festivities for the day begin at 10:15 a.m. at High and Adams Streets with a July 4th parade. The path will continue west to Manatawny Street.
The committee is still looking for marchers or drivers for the Pottstown Rotary Club July 4th parade. Anyone interested should contact firstname.lastname@example.org to register. There is a registration fee that will cover traffic control and other related expenses, according to the committee. Other parade contributions may be made to the Pottstown Rotary Community Endowment Fund (PRCEF) via P.O. Box 227, Pottstown, PA 19464.
The festival continues at Memorial Park. About 20 food vendors are expected. The food trucks and Sly Fox beer tent from last year’s festival are to return as well.
Throughout the day, there will be live entertainment, sponsored by Wolf Baldwin & Associates. The lineup includes: The Andrea Nardello Band, presented by Montgomery County Community College, at 11:30 a.m.; Chestnut Grove, presented by Pottstown Parks & Recreation, at 1:30 p.m.; Brian Fitzy, at 3:30 p.m.; Hector Rosado & Orchestra Hache, at 5:30 p.m.; and Modern Luxe, at 7:30 p.m.
The GoFourth! Festival is geared toward families, with entertainment for kids. “Grandpop Bubbles,” a performance artist, who creates enormous bubbles, will make a special appearance at 3 p.m., according to the committee’s release. Inflatable rides and attractions will also be present from noon to 8 p.m. The Fabulous Faces face-painting artists will be available from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Wacky Patti, a balloon artist, is at the festival from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., and Levram the Great, and “Colonial Conjurer,” who will roam the grounds with his magic act, will be around from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. ROG Orthodontics is sponsoring all of the children’s activities throughout the day.
The Rotary Club will also hold its twenty-sixth annual Duck Race on Manatawny Creek at 4 p.m. on July 4. The Rotary’s sales of duck sponsorships will benefit local charities throughout Pottstown, including Pottstown GoFourth! Ducks are available for purchase at the festival as well as in advance at pottstownrotary.org.
The U.S. Hot Air Balloon Team will have a balloon launch of multiple balloons around 6 p.m.
Other activities throughout the day are to include miniature golf at Manatawny Green and the boarding of the Colebrookdale Railroad, which will conduct short runs to and from Boyertown station, according to the committee’s release. The Carousal of Pottstown will also be open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The International Fireworks of Douglassville is to display fireworks at dark after 9 p.m. in Memorial Park.
“We cannot begin to fund this festival through bucket collections alone,” said Amy Wolf, co-chairperson of the GoFourth! Committee.
Fireworks cost about $1,000 per minute in addition to ancillary costs, like fire department fees, according to the committee’s release.
Anyone can still donate to the festival, too. Businesses and individuals may sponsor various entertainment providers and activities. Upper level sponsors will receive preferred seating during the firework display.
Tax-deductible donations can be made by donating online at PottstownGoFourth.org or by sending a check made payable to the TriCounty Community Network (TCN), with “Attention: GoFourth” as the memo. Checks should be sent to Pottstown GoFourth! Festival, PO Box 1362, Pottstown PA 19464.
