Hawk Moun­tain to host in­au­gu­ral Birds and Brew

Hawk Moun­tain Sanc­tu­ary will host its in­au­gu­ral Birds and Brew event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 11 at the Sanc­tu­ary Am­phithe­ater in Kemp­ton. Pro­ceeds from the event di­rectly sup­port the Sanc­tu­ary’s global con­ser­va­tion sci­ence re­search and ed­u­ca­tional pro­gram­ming.

At­ten­dees will en­joy un­lim­ited beer tast­ings from up to a dozen lo­cal brew­eries, along with high-class food, a com­mem­o­ra­tive 6 ounce glass, and live mu­sic en­ter­tain­ment, per­formed by the blue­grass group Crow Hill, all for the one­time ad­mis­sion price. Tick­ets are for sale in ad­vance for re­duced price, as well as at the door. Des­ig­nated driv­ers and those un­der 21 can at­tend and re­ceive food and non-al­co­holic drinks for re­duced ticket price.

The event takes place on the same day as Hawk Moun­tain’s Off to a Fly­ing Start mi­gra­tion kick-off, which cel­e­brates the be­gin­ning of the au­tumn mi­gra­tion sea­son, dur­ing which Sanc­tu­ary staff, vol­un­teers, and trainees count the pass­ing rap­tors and other wildlife. The event in­cludes hands-on ac­tiv­i­ties for vis- it­ing fam­i­lies, a rap­tor iden­ti­fi­ca­tion pro­gram, and the an­nual Moun­tain Raf­fle.

“This is the per­fect op­por­tu­nity to cel­e­brate the be­gin­ning of our ex­cit­ing au­tumn mi­gra­tion sea­son with hope­fully a new group of vis­i­tors. It will be a won­der­ful evening of fun, food, drinks, and sup­port of the Hawk Moun­tain mis­sion,” says Mem­ber­ship and Vol­un­teer Man­ager Tammy Jan­dr­a­sitz, who co­or­di­nates the event.
