Undefeated week for Bears girls volleyball
BOYERTOWN 3, COLLEGIUM CHARTER 0 >> The Bears picked up a non-conference win over Collegium Charter in straight sets to improve to 12-3 overall on the season.
Set scores were 25-7, 2510 and 25-15. Ashley Anders posted five digs, two aces and an assist while Logan Black had four digs and three aces. Other statistical leaders were Olivia Hurley (two blocks, two kills), Adrianna Derstine (two kills, one dig, one block, two aces). BOYERTOWN 3, NORRISTOWN 0>> The Bears dropped the Eagles in straight sets during a PAC Liberty Division matchup.
Set scores were 25-10, 25-13 and 25-16. Leaders for Boyertown were Julia Smith (26 digs, nine assists) and Taylor Jones (17 assists, 12 digs, eight kills, eight aces). Emily Wolfe had 12 kills, two aces, six digs and four blocks while Emma Ludwig added 12 kills, 13 digs and nine assists. BOYERTOWN 3, SPRING-FORD 1>> The Bears rebounded from an opening-set loss to prevail over the Rams in PAC action. Set scores were 23-25, 25-15, 25-17 and 2523.
Leaders for the Bears were Emma Ludwig (12 kills, 16 digs, 15 assists), Emily Wolfe (nine digs, seven blocks, five kills). Julia Smith (15 digs) and Taylor Jones (18 kills, 14 digs, 16 assists).
BOYERTOWN 3, NORTH PENN 0>> The Boyertown girls volleyball team picked up a 3-0 win over North Penn in a close non-league contest Saturday evening.
Set scores were 27-25, 2518 and 25-19.
Taylor Jones posted 11 digs and 10 assists for Boyertown (15-3 overall) while Julia Smith chipped in with 15 digs. Emma Ludwig had 15 digs and 16 assists while Allie Garris had six digs and two blocks.
Sam Smith’s second-half goal was the difference in a defense-dominated PAC Liberty Division boys soccer game Tuesday between Owen J. Roberts and Boyertown.
The Wildcats used Smith’s tally to secure a 1-0 victory over the Bears.
Smith converted Josh Fonder’s setup with 25:29 left in the game. The matchup was relatively even otherwise, Owen J. with a 10-9 edge in shots on goal, both teams taking pairs of corners and their goalkeepers making seven saves. SPRING-FORD 1, BOYERTOWN 0, OT >> Brett Gulati broke the deadlock 1:14 into overtime to keep the Rams undefeated in PAC play (7-0-1, 9-0-1, 11-1-2).
Andrew Raser was on the assist while goalie Ray Fortebuono had six saves in the shutout. Mason Kurtz had seven saves for Boyertown.
WILSON 2, BOYERTOWN 0 >> Lucas Sarge and Justin Watterson each scored a second-half goal to lead the Bulldogs past the Bears (75-1) in non-league action.
Mason Kurtz’s six goalkeeper saves was the highlight for Boyertown.
SPRING-FORD 3, BOYERTOWN 1>> Spring-Ford rallied from a goal down in the second half with a goal from Ella Curry and a double by Kelly Dombroski in a key PAC Liberty matchup.
Boyertown, coming off of a 0-0 overtime draw with league leader Owen J. Roberts a night before, led 1-0 at halftime on a goal from Emma Elwell.
The win strengthened the Rams’ second-place standing in the PAC Liberty (6-2 division, 9-2 PAC, 10-2 overall) while Boyertown fell to 3-3-2, 6-3-2 and 8-4-3 overall.
Boys Cross Country
PERKIOMEN VALLEY 23, BOYERTOWN 33 >> Though Christian McComb gave the Bears overall race honors, the Vikings claimed six of the next nine spots to win this PAC Liberty Division meet.
McComb’s 16:53 finish made him the lone runner with a sub-17 time. Tyler Clifford (17:08), Ethan Ribelin (17:24) and Dylan Danowski (17:34) went 2-3-4 for PV.
Girls cross country
PERKIOMEN VALLEY 15, BOYERTOWN 50 >> The Vikings took the first seven places in the finishing order on the way to their PAC Liberty Division victory over the Bears.
Delaney O’Sullivan scored overall race honors for PV, running a 21:14. Zora Bergey placed eighth in 22:48 to lead Boyertown.
POTTSGROVE 4, BOYERTOWN 1>> Lydia Mace scored less than five minutes into the game and the Falcons used a three-goal second half to claim a PAC divisional crossover win against the Bears.
Riley Simon scored twice in the win while Katie Bean added a score and Amanda Stone had six saves in the cage. Boyertown’s Lauren Eves got on the board while Laura Wigand made four saves.
OWEN J. ROBERTS 10, BOYERTOWN 0 >> Jenna Kirby figured in on six goals in the Wildcats’ PAC Liberty Division rout of the Bears.
Kirby netted a hat trick and added three assists as OJR jumped out to a 7-0 lead by the half. Natalie Fuertsch added a pair of goals and two assists while Julia Lamb, Maddie Wisen, Bridget Gallagher (assist), Maggie Kilgallon and Rory Cahill rounded out the scorers with solo tallies.
BOYERTOWN 216, POPE JOHN PAUL II 219 >> John Engle fired a round-best 4-over 39 to lead the Bears past the Golden Panthers in this PAC matchup at Gilbertsville.
Brandon Staneszewski followed with a 40 and Brad Fenstermaker shot 43 for Boyertown. Jason Teefy fired a 41 for PJP.
METHACTON 6, BOYERTOWN 1 >> The Warriors took all but one pairing in straight sets in their PAC match with the Bears.
Methacton’s best individual showings belonged to Dina Nouaime (first singles), Tina Prince (second singles) and Julia Jablanski and Katie Chan (third doubles), all of whom won by 6-0, 6-0 sets. Boyertown’s point was scored by Kara Bussinger at third singles.
