GSWCC funds still available for cost share assistance
Section of Newton County eligible
The Georgia Soil and Water Conservation Commission would like to inform the public that there are still funds available for cost share assistance for agricultural operations in sections of Morgan, Newton, Jasper, Putnam and Walton Counties.
The Little River 319 Project is a federal grant to install Best Management Practices in the Little River watershed. This watershed area is west of Highway 441 from Eatonton to Madison, east/ north of Highway 142 from Eatonton to Highway 11 in Newton County, then east of Highway 11 from the Pony Express area to Social Circle. The northern boundary is the Dixie Highway from Madison to Social Circle. Participating operations must have a 20- animal unit minimum.
Practices available for beef, dairy and equine operations are livestock exclusion fencing to prevent access to streams and ponds, wells and water troughs to provide alternative water, cross fencing, pasture improvement, stream crossings and watering ramps.
Dairy operations can also receive cost share assistance on lagoon pump outs and solid waste separators. Poultry operations can receive assistance for poultry litter stack houses, composters and incinerators. Contracts will be reimbursed at a rate of 60 percent of average cost, with higher rates for exclusion fencing based on distance from the stream or pond. A distance of 15 feet will receive a 60 percent cost share, 30 feet will receive 80 percent, and 60 feet will receive 100 percent cost share.
