State hosts ri­val Tech for first time in 34 years

AT­LANTA — Ge­or­gia State will play host to Ge­or­gia Tech for the first time since 1973 as part of its 200708 sched­ule un­der first-year coach Rod Barnes.

Also, Ge­or­gia State’s Colo­nial Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion sched­ule an­nounced on Thurs­day in­cludes home games against 2007 NCAA tour­na­ment teams Vir­ginia Com­mon­wealth and Old Do­min­ion and 2006 Fi­nal Four par­tic­i­pant Ge­orge Ma­son.

The Pan­thers will play Ge­or­gia Tech on Dec. 5 _ its sec­ond game against an At­lantic Coast Con­fer­ence team, fol­low­ing a Nov. 20 visit to Florida State.

Ge­or­gia State opens it sea­son at home against Alaba­maBirm­ing­ham on Nov. 10.

The Pan­thers’ first CAA game also is in At­lanta, on Dec. 1 against Old Do­min­ion.

“We’re ex­cited to have some very at­trac­tive home games for the Ge­or­gia State fans with Ge­or­gia Tech and UAB com­ing to the Sports Arena, as well as VCU, Ge­orge Ma­son, Drexel and Old Do­min­ion play­ing here dur­ing the CAA sea­son,” Barnes said. “ We look for­ward to great home crowds this sea­son.”
