New­ton County Schools Be­gin Au­gust 30

There will be 32 teach­ers at New­ton County High School and 25 teach­ers in gram­mar school. New teach­ers to the high school are Ron­ald M. Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. McCants, L. E. Mullins, R. B. Priest and Dan Wynn.

New­ton High Cheer Lead­ers At­tend Clinic

At­tend­ing were Con­nie Bled­soe, Myrna War­ren, Lynda Bates, Lucy Floyd Mor­cock, Peggy Moore, Sharon Ben­nett and Brenda Bai­ley.

Chicken Stew at Scout Hall

The W.M.U. of the Por­terdale Bap­tist Church in­vites ev­ery­one to the Scout Hall in Por­terdale for good chicken stew. $1 a quart, 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for chil­dren.

God and Coun­try Award

Fol­low­ing the morn­ing ser­vice, Ed­ward H. (Bub­ber) Pratt Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett H. Pratt, was pre­sented with the God and Coun­try Church Scout Award.

Kitchens Fin­ishes Of­fi­cer Train­ing

Joseph A Kitchens Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Kitchens of Mansfield, com­pleted six weeks of of­fi­cer train­ing at the Marine Corps Schools, Quan­tico, Va.

E. L. Fic­quett Gram­mar School

E. L. Fic­quett will open for school at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 30. First graders will be dis­missed af­ter 2 hours on the first day. Sec­ond graders will be dis­missed at 12:30 for the first week and then at 2 p.m., the reg­u­lar time, for the re­main­der of the school year.
