Newton County Schools Begin August 30
There will be 32 teachers at Newton County High School and 25 teachers in grammar school. New teachers to the high school are Ronald M. Bradley, Mr. and Mrs. E. G. McCants, L. E. Mullins, R. B. Priest and Dan Wynn.
Newton High Cheer Leaders Attend Clinic
Attending were Connie Bledsoe, Myrna Warren, Lynda Bates, Lucy Floyd Morcock, Peggy Moore, Sharon Bennett and Brenda Bailey.
Chicken Stew at Scout Hall
The W.M.U. of the Porterdale Baptist Church invites everyone to the Scout Hall in Porterdale for good chicken stew. $1 a quart, 50 cents for adults and 25 cents for children.
Everitt H. (Bubba) Pratt Jr. Receives
God and Country Award
Following the morning service, Edward H. (Bubber) Pratt Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Everett H. Pratt, was presented with the God and Country Church Scout Award.
Kitchens Finishes Officer Training
Joseph A Kitchens Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph A. Kitchens of Mansfield, completed six weeks of officer training at the Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, Va.
E. L. Ficquett Grammar School
E. L. Ficquett will open for school at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 30. First graders will be dismissed after 2 hours on the first day. Second graders will be dismissed at 12:30 for the first week and then at 2 p.m., the regular time, for the remainder of the school year.

Reserved seat tickets for the 1957 Newton County season are $6. Adult season tickets are $5 and student season tickets are $2.
