Lady Ea­gles re­bound to win con­sec­u­tive matches

East­side vol­ley­ball team evens over­all record at 3-3

Al­though the East­side var­sity vol­ley­ball squad has got­ten off to a rocky start this year, the Lady Ea­gles have won two con­sec­u­tive matches.

Dur­ing its open­ing matches on Au­gust 14, the Lady Ea­gles (3-3) lost to Athens Chris­tian and North Oconee by the scores of 25-15, 25-10 and 2517, 25-11, re­spec­tively.

How­ever, there were sev­eral bright spots, such as the play from East­side sopho­more An­to­nia Mullins, who recorded two aces, four blocks, one kill and eight tips.

East­side se­niors Qeiarra John­son and Alysha Van­derzwart com­bined for two aces, two digs, one block, two kills and one tip. In ad­di­tion, East­side sopho­more Ash­ley Ay­cox had two blocks and two tips.

East­side head coach Angie Lewis said that al­though her team made a lot of er­rors, she was hop­ing that the first-match jit­ters were out of the way.

For the most part, Lewis was cor­rect.

De­spite fall­ing to Ola on Thurs­day at home (25-23, 2515), the Lady Ea­gles re­cov­ered to de­feat ri­val New­ton by the scores of 25-20 and 25-16.

Against the Lady Rams, East­side high­lights in­cluded 10 straight points by Van­derzwart, in­clud­ing six aces in the match. John­son added five con­sec­u­tive ser­vice points, in­clud­ing two aces.

And the Lady Ea­gles fol­lowed the vic­tory with an­other one Satur­day against Ea­gles Land­ing, win­ning both matches.

East­side will travel to Cedar Shoals on Tues­day for its next match on the court.
