Myr­tice Lee Phillips Davis

Mrs. Myr­tice Lee Phillips Davis died Aug. 21. The daugh­ter of Mr. John Phillips Sr. and Mrs. Wil­lie Bell John­son Phillips, she grew up in Jack­son. She worked as a cook for over 10 years for the Cen­tral Rail­road Com­pany and later worked at the Bibb Cot­ton Mill, Por­terdale. Mrs. Davis was a long-time em­ployee of Meadors Laun­dry and worked for sev­eral fam­i­lies in Cov­ing­ton – Gainer, Walker Har­ris and Miss Eva Mask. She was an avid mem­ber of the New­ton County Se­nior Ser­vices at Turner Lake and en­joyed trav­el­ing with the group. She was a mem­ber of Murray Me­mo­rial C.M.E. Church where she was in the choir, Sun­day School and Ste­wardess Board. Mrs. Davis was pre­ceded in death by her mother, fa­ther, three brothers, one sis­ter and her hus­band Mr. Bridges Davis.

Sur­viv­ing are sons Mr. Ru­fus Troy Phillips, Mr. and Mrs. Sim­mie (Lau­rie) Davis; grand­daugh­ter Ms. She­lathia Davis; grand­son Mr. Seth Davis; three great-grand­chil­dren; nephew Mr. and Mrs. Wil­lie Hicks; sis­ter-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Wil­lie (John­nie Mae) Alexan­der; the fam­ily of Mrs. Emo­gene Wil­liams — Al, Delores, An­dre, Avery, the Rev. Avis Wil­liams; the Nor­woods and the Cle­mons; her church fam­ily; a host of other rel­a­tives and friends; and Brit­tany her beloved pet.

Funeral ser­vices were held at 2 p.m. Aug. 26 at Murray Me­mo­rial C.M.E. Church with the Rev. A.C. McEl­roy of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed at Pleas­ant View Bap­tist Church Ceme­tery.
