High School Iron Chef Competition
Come and join the Newton County Library’s first High School Iron Chef Competition Nov. 8 at the library meeting room at 6 p.m. Participants will compete in healthy alternative salads and desserts. The library will provide ingredients, one of which will be a surprise. All utensils and a microwave will be available. Turn in a completed sign-up form no later than Nov. 6. Forms are available at the library.
Ladies’ Big Bunco
The Learning Center’s will host a Ladies’ Big bunco fundraiser at 7 p.m. at The Center, Washington Street. For a $20 admission fee players will enjoy food and beverages and win holiday themed door prizes.
Covington AARP Meeting
The Covington AARP Chapter 3542 will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Smiley’s Restaurant, 2001 Main St., Porterdale. The Brown Team is in charge. Lunch will be served at noon for $8 plus tip. Remember to bring canned food for the Salvation Army. For information, call Ralph Abercrombie at (770) 784-6003.
Senior citizen Art Work
Everyone is welcome to the opening night of the Newton County Senior Services Art Show that will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Newton County Library. Newton County senior residents will display over 100 pieces of art at the library from Nov. 8 through Nov. 23. The exhibit then will move to the Turner Lake Recreation complex for a one-day art sale and raffle to benefit the art program at Newton Senior Services. Call (770) 787-0038 for information.
