High School Iron Chef Com­pe­ti­tion

Come and join the New­ton County Li­brary’s first High School Iron Chef Com­pe­ti­tion Nov. 8 at the li­brary meet­ing room at 6 p.m. Par­tic­i­pants will com­pete in healthy al­ter­na­tive sal­ads and desserts. The li­brary will pro­vide in­gre­di­ents, one of which will be a sur­prise. All uten­sils and a mi­crowave will be avail­able. Turn in a com­pleted sign-up form no later than Nov. 6. Forms are avail­able at the li­brary.

Ladies’ Big Bunco

The Learn­ing Cen­ter’s will host a Ladies’ Big bunco fundraiser at 7 p.m. at The Cen­ter, Wash­ing­ton Street. For a $20 ad­mis­sion fee play­ers will en­joy food and bev­er­ages and win hol­i­day themed door prizes.

Cov­ing­ton AARP Meet­ing

The Cov­ing­ton AARP Chap­ter 3542 will meet at 10:30 a.m. at Smi­ley’s Restau­rant, 2001 Main St., Por­terdale. The Brown Team is in charge. Lunch will be served at noon for $8 plus tip. Se­nior cit­i­zen Art Work

Ev­ery­one is wel­come to the open­ing night of the New­ton County Se­nior Ser­vices Art Show that will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the New­ton County Li­brary. New­ton County se­nior res­i­dents will dis­play over 100 pieces of art at the li­brary from Nov. 8 through Nov. 23. The ex­hibit then will move to the Turner Lake Re­cre­ation com­plex for a one-day art sale and raf­fle to ben­e­fit the art pro­gram at New­ton Se­nior Ser­vices.
