John L. Rooks

Mr. John L. Rooks, 86, of Cov­ing­ton, died Jan. 30. Mr. Rooks was born in Bar­row County in 1921 and lived all of his adult life in Cov­ing­ton. He was a vet­eran of World War II and a life-long mem­ber of Red Oak United Methodist Church where he held ev­ery church of­fice avail­able. He ws an ac­tive mem­ber of the Cov­ing­ton Li­ons Club and Golden Fleece Ma­sonic Lodge No. 6 in Cov­ing­ton. Mr. Rooks was the owner of Rooks Cus­tom Wood Works, Cov­ing­ton. He was pre­ceded in death by par­ents John Her­schel and Cora John­son Rooks and wife Mrs. Mat­tie Chris­tine Berry Rooks.

Sur­viv­ing are sons and daugh­ters-in-law Gary and Cindy Rooks of Hum­ble, Texas, John Wayne and Jim­mie Ruth Rooks of New­nan, Michael Rooks of Cov­ing­ton, Ricky and Carol Rooks of Cov­ing­ton; brothers and sis­ters-in-law Ru­dolph and Ruth Rooks, Ran­dall and Carolyn Rooks; sis­ters and brothers-in-law Ju­lia and Theo Dun­can, Joyce and Don­ald Allen, Jean Bar­nett; grand­chil­dren Douglas and Stephanie Rooks, Stephanie and Brent McGee, Keely Rooks, Brit­tany Rooks; four great-grand­chil­dren; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Funeral ser­vices will be at 11 a.m. Satur­day, Feb. 2, at Red Oak United Methodist Church with the Rev. Miguel A. Velez of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Red Oak Church Ceme­tery. Vis­i­ta­tion will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. to­day, Feb. 1, at Har­wellWheeler Funeral Home.
