Sy­ble Carter, 89, of Cov­ing­ton, died Jan­uary 31. A na­tive of Caroll­ton, Mrs. Carter was a home­maker and a mem­ber of Kelly’s Chapel Methodist Church. She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band Andrew Garce Carter and daugh­ter Betty Jo Buff­in­g­ton

Sur­viv­ing are chil­dren Mable Bus­bee, Garce (Ed) Carter, Terry Carter, Lau­rie Ma­son; 19 grand­chil­dren, 32 great-grand­chil­dren; five step­grand­chil­dren, 13 step-great grand­chil­dren, 22 great-great­grand­chil­dren; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews

Funeral ser­vices were held Feb. 2 at Horis A. Ward’s Rock­dale Chapel with the Rev. Nolan Jack­son of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed at Fairview Me­mo­rial Gar­dens, Stock­bridge. Feb. 2. She was born March 24, 1923 and was the daugh­ter of the late John William and Lula Mae McNabb Ca­gle, from At­lanta. Mrs. New­ton was of the Methodist faith and for­merly lived in For­est Park be­fore mov­ing to Cov­ing­ton 18 years ago.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Mar­shall Earl New­ton. She is sur­vived by her son and daugh­ter-in-law, Don and Bil­lie New­ton, Jack­son; daugh­ter and son-in-law, Jan and Larry Driver, Cov­ing­ton; sis­ters, Mrs. Louise Ivey, Harpeville, Mrs. Thelma McMil­lian, Fayet­teville; grand­chil­dren, Kerri San­ders, McDonough, Ryan New­ton, Stock­bridge, Ja­son “Jay” New­ton, McDonough; great grand­daugh­ter, Lauren San­ders, McDonough; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews.

Funeral ser­vices will be held Mon­day, Feb. 4 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Van Wrinle of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low at Lawn­wood Me­mo­rial Park. The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at the funeral home to­day, Feb. 3 from 5 p.m. un­til 8 p.m.
