County gets grant for drug court

Af­ter some three years of plan­ning, and wait­ing, New­ton has be­come the na­tion’s first county of its size to re­ceive a $400,000 fed­eral grant to help steer kids away from drugs and al­co­hol and away from a sys­tem full of young re­peat of­fend­ers. New­ton’s new approach is de­signed to keep youths away from sub­stance abuse while build­ing life skills and im­prov­ing self-es­teem, ac­cord­ing to the court’s ju­di­cial su­per­vi­sor Carl Sims.
