A man was reportedly beaten unconscious with a baseball bat Tuesday at the Magnolia Heights apartments.

A Covington Police Officer reportedly responded to the Newton Medical Center Emergency Room shortly after 7 p.m. There he made contact with a man who said he had been assaulted 30 minutes prior by a black man nicknamed Big Money.

The officer reportedly observed injuries to the victim’s stomach, arms and head.

The victim had reportedly been visiting a friend at a Magnolia Heights apartment and had stepped outside to smoke a cigarette. While he was outside, a black Oldsmobile pulled up near the victim and four men and a woman exited the car.

The group reportedly rushed the apartment where the victim had been visiting.

According to the police report, as they passed, he saw one of the men carrying a small hand gun. The driver of the car, Big Money, reportedly stayed behind and pulled a baseball bat from the car before beating the victim with the weapon.

After being beaten, the vic- tim was reportedly found by his brother-in-law who dropped him off at the hospital. He could reportedly not remember the apartment number or building he had been visiting.

The victim reportedly told the officer that Big Money had fought with his brother-in-law’s friend earlier in the day over $300. The victim said he was present at the time of the fight, but he as not sure who owed the money.

Anyone with information about the fight is asked to call the Covington Police Department at 770-786-7605. Tips can be given to the CPD anonymously by visiting their Web site at www.covingtonpolice.com and clicking on “contact us” and then “secret witness.”
