Chris­tian nets two goals in 2-0 shutout; Lady Ea­gles crushed

The East­side High var­sity soc­cer teams were swept at home by Lo­ganville Fri­day night in Area 8 ac­tion.

For the boys, the Ea­gles (43 over­all) lost a heart­breaker, 2-0. Lo­ganville’s Joe Chris­tian scored both goals, his fifth and sixth of the sea­son. Goalie Zach Slape helped pre­serve the shutout.

In the girls game, the Lady Ea­gles were ul­ti­mately de­feated 6-1. Their record now stands at 2-3 over­all.

East­side will next visit Madi­son at 5:30 p.m. Mon­day.

NEW­TON RE­CRE­ATION Seeks ads, vol­un­teers for Dixie Boys World Se­ries

The New­ton County Re­cre­ation Com­mis­sion is cur­rently seek­ing ad­ver­tis­ers, spon­sors and vol­un­teer help for the up­com­ing 2008 Dixie Boys World Se­ries (13-14 year olds).

This event, which is the largest spec­ta­cle of the year, will fea­ture 12 teams com­pet­ing for the world cham­pi­onship

GOLF Cham­ber hosts tour­ney

Au­gust 1-7 at City Pond Com­plex. In ad­di­tion, the re­cre­ation de­part­ment has 25 other out­side tour­na­ments booked for this year.

Ads for the sou­venir pro­gram are due by May 16.

The Cov­ing­ton/New­ton Coun- ty Cham­ber of Com­merce 14th An­nual Golf Tour­na­ment is April 17 at the Oaks Golf Course.

The cost is $110 per player, or $440 per team.

Reg­is­tra­tion be­gins at 10:30 a.m., fol­lowed by a putting con­test, lunch and a silent auc­tion preview. The shot­gun start is at noon.

Heavy hors d’oeu­vres and an award cer­e­mony will fol­low upon tour­na­ment com­ple­tion. Awards will be given to the first, sec­ond and third place teams. There will also be awards given to the Clos­est to the pin and Putting Con­test win­ners, in­clud­ing door prize draw­ings.

BAS­KET­BALL EHS host­ing alumni game

The East­side High bas­ket­ball pro­gram is cur­rently un­der­go­ing a search for all for­mer boys and girls play­ers, in­clud­ing head coaches, as­sis­tant coaches, man­agers, cheer­lead­ers and mas­cots, to com­pete in the fall 2008 Alumni Bas­ket­ball Game.
