Al­covy base­ball hop­ing to im­prove in sec­ond year

The Al­covy var­sity base­ball team, though young, will rely on a vast amount of re­turn­ing sopho­mores this sea­son.

Led by head coach Joe Mob­ley, the Tigers are hop­ing to make some noise in Re­gion 8AAAA.

But in or­der for them to turn around a 4-22 record from one year ago, their suc­cess on the di­a­mond will ul­ti­mately de­ter­mine their fate. How far the sec­ond-year pro­gram will go this sea­son still re­mains ques­tion­able. Al­covy in­field­ers in­clude first base­men Cody Bala, Richard Nash, Beau Thomas, sec­ond base­men Bryan Daniel and Tay­lor Jack­son, short­stop El­lis Fan­ning, third base­man Jimmy In­gram and util­ity in­fielder Jon Pol­lard.

Daniel and Jack­son will also share time be­hind the plate as catcher.

Out­field­ers in­clude Michael Aven­tu­rato, Cole Log­gins, Ross Robert­sand Thomas.

On the hill, the start­ing ro­ta­tion will also in­clude Thomas, Aven­tu­rato, Bala and Pol­lard. Fan­ning and Jack­son will as­sist with re­lief du­ties.

Al­covy will visit Rock­dale County at 5:30 p.m. Mon­day.
