Kath­leen Tarver “ Kitty’ Varn

Kath­leen Tarver “ Kitty” Varn, 77, died March 2. The daugh­ter of Catharine Mang­ham Tarver and Charles Ed­ward Tarver of Cordele, she was born in 1930 and lived most of her life in Cordele and Albany. She taught high school English and was a school coun­selor for the Dougherty County School Sys­tem.

While in Albany, she was an ac­tive mem­ber of St. Paul’s Epis­co­pal Church and a mem­ber of the Albany Ju­nior League. She moved to Cov­ing­ton 14 years ago af­ter the death of her hus­band James Caulie “ Hud­die” Varn.

She was a ded­i­cated mem­ber of The Church of the Good Shep­herd where she served as a mem­ber of the Al­tar Guild, was co­or­di­na­tor of the church book­store and was a mem­ber and past pres­i­dent of the Epis­co­pal Church Women. She was a mem­ber of the Cov­ing­ton Gar­den Club, New­ton Med­i­cal Aux­il­iary and sev­eral bridge clubs.

Sur­viv­ing are daugh­ters and son- in- law Lee and Bob Richard­son of Cov­ing­ton; Catharine Cun­ning­ham of Cov­ing­ton and her son and daugh­ter- in- law Jim and Aurora Varn of Green­wood, Miss.; sis­ter and brother- in­law Liz and Jimmy Sealy of Blakely; brother- in- law and sis­ter- in- law Gor­don and Katty Varn of Albany; grand­chil­dren Wans­ley Grif­fin, Caulie Hamling, Whit Richard­son, Pear­son, Varn and Kath­leen Cun­ning­ham, James and Estella Varn; great- grand­daugh­ter Tarver Grif­fin; sev­eral nieces and neph­ews; dear­est friends Bob and Slade Bright of Cordele.

Funeral ser­vices were held March 4 in The Church of the Good Shep­herd, 4140 Clark St., with the Rev. Ti­mothy Gra­ham of­fi­ci­at­ing. A re­cep­tion fol­lowed the ser­vice. In lieu of flow­ers, the fam­ily re­quests that me­mo­rial con­tri­bu­tions be made to The Church of the Good Shep­herd, 4140 Clark Street, Cov­ing­ton, 30014.
