Vi­vian Gaither Mitchell

Mrs Vi­vian “Bea” Gaither Mitchell died March 20. The daugh­ter of Mr. and Mrs. Bud (Betty) Gaither, she was born in 1955. Mrs. Mitchell grad­u­ated from New­ton County High School and joined Po­plar Hill A.M.E. Church at an early age. For sev­eral years she worked at Food De­pot in Cov­ing­ton. Mrs. Mitchell was warm, hu­mor­ous and a lov­ing spir­ited per­son with an in­fec­tious smile that will be missed by all who knew and loved her. She was pre­ceded in death by hus­band Mr. Roy Way­mond Mitchell.

Sur­viv­ing are par­ents Mr. and Mrs. Bud (Betty) Gaither; chil­dren Ms. Chrishaye Gaither, Mr. Royce (Monique) Mitchell, Mr. Markel Mitchell, Ms. Se­quoyah Mitchell; brother Mr. Spur­geon (Anita) Gaither; grand­chil­dren Saleen, Markel Jr. and Rahkel; nieces and nephew Ni­cole, Am­bria and Ju­nior; a host of close aunts, un­cles, cousins and friends; a de­voted and lov­ing friend Chrisan­dra Wim­berly.

Funeral ser­vices were held March 25 at Po­plar Hill A.M.E. Church, Mansfield, with the Rev. W. H. Gaither of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the church ceme­tery. Jack­son, she was born in Wal­ton County in 1942. She at­tended school and joined Fel­low­ship Bap­tist Church at an early age. Mrs. Smith worked at Mon­roe Mill and in house­keep­ing and as a cook at many restau­rants. Her sec­ond fam­ily was the Ed­mond­sons of Pot Luck Café where she worked for over 20 years. She was also known as the neigh­bor­hood mom. Her lov­ing smile and per­son­al­ity will be deeply missed.

Sur­viv­ing are fa­ther Mr. James Jack­son Sr.; mother Mrs. Martha Jack­son; sons Mr. Kenny Smith, Mr. and Mrs. Darrrell (Iris) Smith; step­son Mr. Jarnard (Shay) Gunn; daugh­ters Ms. Emma Smith, Ms. Mary Smith (Ricky), Mrs. Jackie Arnold; brothers Mr. James Jack­son Jr., Mr. Thomas Jack­son Sr.; grand­chil­dren Nikki (Yolanda) Smith, Kenny (Chaun­dra) Smith, Chris (Tonya) Smith, Ty­dric Arnold, Shun­dra Smith, Dar­ius Arnold, Kiara Smith, Ken­drick Smith, Mary Smith, April Smith, Shaquell Smith, Dar­rell Smith II, Ken Smith, Quin Sims, Mar­tavi­ous Durham; 12 great­grand­chil­dren; six chil­dren she raised as her own Mr. and Mrs. Thomas (Shirley Ann) Jack­son Jr., Mr. bobby Jack­son, Ms. Sherry Jack­son, Mr. Jerry Elder, Mr. and Mrs. Timmy (Mary) Elder, Mr. Reg­gie Elder; spe­cial friends Mr. Tim At­wa­ter, Mr. Wa­ver Elder, Mrs. Nel­lie Atk­ism, The Searcy and Car­rier fam­i­lies, Mrs. Cora Sheats; a host of aunts, un­cles, nieces, neph­ews, other rel­a­tives and friends.

Funeral ser­vices were held March 24 at Fel­low­ship Bap­tist Church, So­cial Cir­cle, with the Rev. Clin­ton Sor­rells of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment fol­lowed in the church ceme­tery.
