moved to Mon­roe two years ago af­ter liv­ing in Cony­ers many years. Mrs. Mathis was a mem­ber of the First Bap­tist Church of So­cial Cir­cle and was a for­mer long­time mem­ber of Zion Bap­tist Church in Cov­ing­ton. She was a mem­ber of the South­ern Bap­tist Con­ven­tion’s Dis­as­ter Re­lief Team, a Red Cross vol­un­teer and an avid gar­dener. She was pre­vi­ously em­ployed by Bio Lab in Cony­ers as a ship­ping man­ager.

Sur­viv­ing are chil­dren Bar­bara and Jack Grif­fin of So­cial Cir­cle, Vicki and Stacy Philippus of So­cial Cir­cle, Danny and Pam Mathis of Cov­ing­ton; sis­ters Hilda Smith of Mon­roe, Mil­lie McSwain of Cony­ers, Edith Ge­orge of Win­ter­ville; brother Bo Smith of Cov­ing­ton; four grand­chil­dren; two great- grand­chil­dren; sev­eral nieces, nephew, other fam­ily and close friends.

The fam­ily will re­ceive friends at the funeral home to­day, March 30, from 5 p. m. to 8 p. m. funeral ser­vices will be at 11 a. m. Mon­day, march 31, at Zion Bap­tist Church, Cov­ing­ton, with the Rev. Reese San­ders of­fi­ci­at­ing. In­ter­ment will fol­low in Green Meadow Me­mo­rial Gar­dens, Cony­ers.
