East­side High golf leads New­ton, Al­covy dur­ing an­nual New­ton Cup

COV­ING­TON — On Tues­day the East­side High golf team led af­ter the first round of the New­ton Cup, an an­nual tour­na­ment in­volv­ing all three lo­cal high schools, in­clud­ing Al­covy and New­ton.

The for­mat was stroke play at The Oaks Course.

For the boys, East­side’s Tay­lor Smith shot an even par ( 71). Team­mates Ace Cook shot a 74, while Tate Miller and Nick Green shot a 77 and 80, re­spec­tively.

When the day was com­plete the Ea­gles had a score of 302. New­ton fol­lowed with 382, while Al­covy fin­ished at 395.

The sec­ond and fi­nal round will be April 14 at In­dian Creek, and the for­mat will be mod­i­fied al­ter­nate shot.

In girls ac­tion, the Lady Ea­gles shot an even 100 dur­ing their first round. New­ton is one stroke back with a 101, while Al­covy shot a 113.

The Lady Ea­gles were led by Mag­gie Smith with a 47 and Caitlin New­man ( 53).
