Eastside High golf leads Newton, Alcovy during annual Newton Cup
Special Olympics Week, Cheerios Challenge and Golf Classic
COVINGTON — On Tuesday the Eastside High golf team led after the first round of the Newton Cup, an annual tournament involving all three local high schools, including Alcovy and Newton.
The format was stroke play at The Oaks Course.
For the boys, Eastside’s Taylor Smith shot an even par ( 71). Teammates Ace Cook shot a 74, while Tate Miller and Nick Green shot a 77 and 80, respectively.
When the day was complete the Eagles had a score of 302. Newton followed with 382, while Alcovy finished at 395.
The second and final round will be April 14 at Indian Creek, and the format will be modified alternate shot.
In girls action, the Lady Eagles shot an even 100 during their first round. Newton is one stroke back with a 101, while Alcovy shot a 113.
The Lady Eagles were led by Maggie Smith with a 47 and Caitlin Newman ( 53).
