The final day of Special Olympics Week in Newton County is today.

On behalf of the 600+ Special Olympians in the com- munity, the event has lasted throughout the week, with opening ceremonies and a parade held Monday.

Special Olympics is the worldwide leader in providing high quality sports training and athletic competition opportunities for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The program is unique in that it accommodates competitors at all ability levels by assigning them to “ competition divisions” based on both age and actual performance.

The biggest event is the Spring Games, which offers track and field competitions for all age and ability groups over a three- day span. It also offers Newton County a firsthand opportunity to see the special gifts and talents the athletes possess.

For further information, call Pam Dew, local program coordinator, at ( 770) 3856916 or send e- mail to dew. pam@newton.k12.ga.us.
