Salem Camp Ground earns spot on National Register
Every summer since 1854, with the exception of Civil War years, tenters have been worshiping at the Salem Camp Ground on Salem Road. It has earned a listing on the National Register of Historic Places for significant architecture and community planning and development because it is a very intact camp meeting ground with all the significant features: a large, central tabernacle and dozens of tents or houses.

State grant will help fill library

Prince named merit finalist
Emily Prince of Eastside High School has been named a National Merit Finalist as has Meredith Ozley of Newton High School.
Gourley named “Academic Athlete of the Week”
Newton High School’s Gretchen Gourley was honored for her athletic and academic accomplishments by Georgia Public Television’s PrepSports. She is a four-year starter on the Lady Rams soccer team. Gourley is the second student-athlete from the community to be honored by Prep-Sports. Eastside’s Matt Schell was honored in October.
The sign of the cross
In memory of the late Rev. Thomas J. White, First Presbyterian Church of Covington’s former pastor for 22 years, the congregation had a Celtic cross made for the new, yet sparse, sanctuary, according to parishioner pat Patrick of Covington.
