East­side High golf teams re­tain New­ton Cup

Ea­gles re­peat as cham­pi­ons

COV­ING­TON — On Mon­day, the East­side High golf teams re­tained the New­ton Cup by out­play­ing crosstown ri­vals Al­covy and New­ton at In­dian Creek Golf Club.

For the East­side boys, who com­peted us­ing a mod­i­fied al­ter­nate shot, it was their fourth year in a row win­ning the ti­tle, fin­ish­ing the two-day event with an over­all score of 535. New­ton fol­lowed with a 687, while Al­covy fin­ished third with a 692.

In girls ac­tion, it was the sec­ond con­sec­u­tive year for the Lady Ea­gles, fin­ish­ing with an over­all score of 214. New­ton ended sec­ond (224), while Al­covy fin­ished with a score of 238.

Tay­lor Smith and Tate Miller each shot a 74 to lead the Ea­gles. East­side’s J.T. Blaker and Tay­lor Lazenby shot a 75, while Ace Cook and Nick Green shot an 82.

Mag­gie Smith shot a 55 and Illysa John­son shot a 59 to lead the Lady Ea­gles. lenge, which in­cludes the 10K/5K Road Race and 1 Mile Fun Run, is Satur­day.

The 10K be­gins at 7:45 a.m., while the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 9 a.m. fol­lowed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m.

Race day reg­is­tra­tion $20.

Awards will be given in each stan­dard age group at the end of each race. In ad­di­tion, there will be a $100 cash prize awarded to the first male and fe­male to break the course record in the 10K and 5K (10K Record M: 31:16; F: 39:27).
