Chee­rios Chal­lenge slated for Satur­day

The Cov­ing­ton Fam­ily YMCA an­nual Chee­rios Chal­lenge, which in­cludes the 10K/5K Road Race and 1 Mile Fun Run, is Satur­day.

The 10K be­gins at 7:45 a.m., while the 1 Mile Fun Run starts at 9 a.m. fol­lowed by the 5K at 9:30 a.m. Race day reg­is­tra­tion is $20. Awards will be given in each stan­dard age group at the end of each race. In ad­di­tion, there will be a $100 cash prize awarded to the first male and fe­male to break the course record in the 10K and 5K (10K Record M:

GOLF East­side High sweeps Lo­ganville in re­gion play

COV­ING­TON — On Tues­day, the East­side High golf teams swept Lo­ganville at In­dian Creek Golf Club.

In boys ac­tion, the Ea­gles won 157-186, im­prov­ing to 17- 1 over­all on the year.

Lead­ing the way for East­side were Tay­lor Smith (36), Tate Miller (37) and Nick Green (41). Ace Cook, J.T. Blaker and Tay­lor Lazenby each shot a 43.

Mean­while, the Lady Ea­gles were vic­to­ri­ous, 106-111.

East­side’s Mag­gie Smith led with a 50, while Illysa John­son had a 56. Jessie Lind­sey shot a 62, fol­lowed by Madi­son Rainer (68).

Ox­ford Col­lege Golf Clas­sic

The Ox­ford Col­lege Ath­let­ics Golf Clas­sic will be held at 1 p.m. (shot­gun start) on Mon­day at The Oaks Course.

The event is ded­i­cated to the 2007 Na­tional Cham­pion Ox­ford men’s ten­nis team.

The for­mat is four-per­son scram­ble, and the cost is $90 per golfer. In ad­di­tion, there will be sev­eral con­tests (putting, long­est drive and clos­est to pin), in­clud­ing lunch, din­ner and a prize raf­fle.

All pro­ceeds will di­rectly ben­e­fit the Ox­ford Col­lege Ath­let­ics De­part­ment.
