DRILL Taylor Tyger leads Oxford to 3- 0 start
The Oxford women’s soccer team remained undefeated on the season with a 5-2 win over Shelton State in the evening match of the Oxford Cup 2008 Friday.
Arielle Hayden opened the scoring in the third minute when she took a pass from Taylor Tyger and slipped a ball behind the Shelton State goalkeeper. Oxford pounded the Shelton State goal for much of the first half and was held in check until Hannah Hooten found the back of the net in the 44th minute to take a 2-0 lead to the half.
Hooten scored her second goal of the match in the 50th minute when she drove home a shot off a pass from Katie Phillips. Tyger finished off Shelton State when she buried two goals in an eight minute span in the 60th and 68th minutes. Tyger’s second goal was a tremendous tight angle volley off a serve from Phillips. Shelton State did manage to beak Oxford’s shutout with two goals in the final 15 minutes.
