Ox­ford women suf­fer first loss to Na­tional Power Polk CC

The Ox­ford Col­lege women’s soc­cer team suf­fered its first loss of the sea­son in the fi­nal game of the Ox­ford Cup 2008 on Satur­day night to JUCO 1 pow­er­house Polk Com­mu­nity Col­lege from Lake­land, Fla.

Ox­ford has its best chance of the game in the first minute when Arielle Hay­den got in be­hind the Polk de­fense and laid a ball across the box to Tay­lor Tyger whose shot was saved by the Polk goal­keeper at close range. Ox­ford had two other chances early in the first 10 min­utes, but could not get the ball be­hind the Polk goal­keeper.

Betsy Rudd an­chored an Ox­ford de­fense that shut down Polk’s po­tent at­tack for much of the first half. Polk’s first real chance of the match came in the 20th minute when it cap­i­tal­ized on an Ox­ford mis­take and tucked a ball be­hind Ox­ford goal­keeper Al­lie Kay­hart, who was mak­ing her first start of the sea­son. Polk dou­bled their lead in the 25th minute took the 2-0 lead to half­time.

The Lady Ea­gles did well to limit Polk’s chances on goal for the first 60 min­utes of the match un­til Polk broke the game open and scored four times in the last 30 min­utes to se­cure the win.
