Lady Rams fall to Union Grove

The Lady Rams ran into a buzz saw on the di­a­mond Wed­nes­day as they dropped a 3-1 de­ci­sion to Union Grove in re­gion play at Tuner Lake.

New­ton (6-4, 2-1 Re­gion 2-AAAAA) lost for the first time in re­gion play, but it wasn’t due to their de­fense and pitch­ing.

Holly Springer pitched an­other solid game and the Lady Rams played sound de­fense be­hind her. The of­fense, on the other had, couldn’t pick her up. De­spite its best ef­fort, Union Grove pitcher Meagan Stover kept New­ton off bal­ance all evening as she struck out 12 bat­ters to post the win.

New­ton faced an early deficit as the Lady Wolver­ines scored two runs in the first in­ning. Sammi Becker re­sponded with a sin­gle in the bot­tom of the first and later moved into scor­ing po­si­tion af­ter Cho­conna Marks reached base on an er­ror.
