Lo­cal stu­dent re­ceives UGA schol­ar­ship

Emily Lu­cille Wy­att has been se­lected to re­ceive the South­ern States Co­op­er­a­tive Schol­ar­ship awarded by the Uni­ver­sity of Ge­or­gia Col­lege of Agri­cul­tural and En­vi­ron­men­tal Sciences for the 2008- 2009 aca­demic year.

She is a fresh­man at UGA ma­jor­ing in An­i­mal Health and a 2008 grad­u­ate of New­ton High School. She is the daugh­ter of Mr. and Mrs. Donny Wy­att of Cov­ing­ton.

Lo­cal stu­dents in­ducted into the Na­tional Honor So­ci­ety

The Na­tional Honor Roll con­tacts po­ten­tially qual­if­ing stu­dents af­ter re­view­ing in­for­ma­tion about their aca­demic per­for­mance. Only stu­dents with a B or bet­ter av­er­age are el­i­gi­ble to be in­ducted into the so­ci­ety.

The fol­low­ing New­ton County stu­dents have been named to the Na­tional Honor So­ci­ety. The Na­tional Honor Roll rec­og­nizes high- achiev­ing high school and mid­dle school stu­dents.

Ox­ford Res­i­dent re­ceives schol­ar­ship

Amy Hamp­ton of Ox­ford has been awarded the Ex­cel­lence in Spe­cial Ed­u­ca­tion Schol­ar­ship from West­ern Gov­er­nors Uni­ver­sity. The school of­fers un­der­grad­u­ate and grad­u­ate de­grees in in­for­ma­tion tech­nol­ogy, busi­ness, teacher ed­u­ca­tion and health­care.

Kelly- Reeves re­ceives Doc­tor­ate de­gree

Ch­eryl Kelly- Reeves, a sec­ond grade teacher in Henry County, re­ceived her Doc­tor­ate from Ar­gosy Uni­ver­sity on July 19 in In­struc­tional Lead­er­ship. She re­ceived her bach­e­lor de­gree in Early Child­hood Ed­u­ca­tion from Mor­ris Brown Col­lege, her Mas­ters in ed­u­ca­tional lead­er­ship from Troy State Uni­ver­sity and her Spe­cial­ist in Cur­ricu­lum and

Fu­ture vet: In­struc­tion from Ar­gosy Uni­ver­sity.

She is the daugh­ter of Charles Kelly Sr. and Ruby Heard Kelly; the grand­daugh­ter of Jeanie Mae Kelly and the late Nel­son Kelly and the late Eu­gene and Ellen Heard. She ded­i­cated her dis­ser­ta­tion to her daugh­ter Dashae and in mem­ory of her late son Davond.

Dun­can named to Dean’s List

Matthew Whit­ting­ton Dun­can of Ox­ford has been named to the Dean’s List at Berry Col­lege for Spring. The dean’s list hon­ors stu­dents who posted an aca­demic av­er­age of 3.5 or bet­ter on a 4.0 scale while car­ry­ing a class load of at least 12 hours dur­ing the se­mes­ter. Dun­can is the son of Kerry and Julie Dun­can and is ma­jor­ing in Psy­chol­ogy.
