Every­one from New­ton County and its sur­round­ing ar­eas are in­vited to a Solemn As­sem­bly from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. on the square. Pied­mont Cat­tle­men’s As­so­ci­a­tion will be hold­ing its 14th an­nual auc­tion meet­ing on Septem­ber 11th at 6 p.m. at the FFA/FCCLA Cen­ter. A steak din­ner will be $10 per per­son. Pro­ceeds will sup­port 4H and FFA live­stock projects, schol­ar­ship for Ag stu­dents and more.

The Cov­ing­ton Lions Club is spon­sor­ing a Cov­ing­ton Idol Com­pe­ti­tion to be held dur­ing Sher­man’s Last Burn­ing bar­be­cue cook-off at 1 p.m. Oct. 11 at the Le­gion Fair­grounds. En­trants must sub­mit a CD or tape of them singing a song of their choice. The song may be ac­com­pa­nied or a capella and be any type of mu­sic.
